Live Text-Message Demo…

With the help of my friends over at mResource, I was able to provide a live text-message demo. Webinar attendees participating from the U.S. were prompted to send a text-message with the keyword “SHOWME” to 90206. This simple demo helped to illustrate how easily text-messaging could be used to segment and pre-screen a target audience. The example included some simple questions, a call-to-action, and a redirect to a mobile-optimized landing page. As Social Media continues to influence and impact our lives, it is important for us to understand how to separate the hype from reality. This year, ERE is launching the “first-of-its-kind” Social Recruiting Summit which will be hosted by Susan Burns. Marlatt brought up a new breed of media consumers called “media snackers,” or people who have been bombarded with media tools like social networks, microblogs, and media aggregators, and then acquire “Web 2.0 Attention Deficit Disorder.”

“We’re so overwhelmed, we don’t take the time anymore to read blogs like we did three years ago,” Marlatt said. “Anyone who actually blogs can look at their analytics and see the level of traffic vs. a year ago. The attention span of most users is waning. People are consuming information in small bits and choose how they want it when they want it. It’s about micromedia, not social media.”
