Finally back from my blogging hiatus!

February 24, 2010 by Michael Marlatt · 1 Comment

Ok, so I admit it. Since December 2009, I’ve taken a rather extended hiatus from blogging to spend a bit more time with my family. My better half will tell you that it was long over due and I’ll have to agree. While it’s been a nice break to get off the grid and away from writing, I’m finally back and re-energized.

Moving forward, I plan on spending much more time focusing my discussions around the mobile space, i.e., mobile recruiting, mobile marketing & SMS, mobile site optimization, and other mobile-related technologies, etc. I invite you to spend a little time browsing the site. Who knows, you may find something that interests you.

Need help building a mobile recruiting solution, site, or want me to speak at your conference? If so, feel free to email me. However, if you simply want to connect to me, there are many ways to do so. Here’s a good place to start

See you in the cloud!

Social Recruiting Summit Presentation: Mobile Marketing (for Recruitment)

June 18, 2009 by Michael Marlatt · 1 Comment

I am back from the Social Recruiting Summit and must say that I had a great time. The best part for me was not only watching the presentations live, but also having the opportunity to interact with new and existing friends.

In case you missed the event, I co-presented on the topic of mobile recruiting with friend and fellow mobile enthusiast Chris Hoyt (AKA - RecruiterGuy). Oh, and while you are visiting his site, you might want to take a moment to read his most recent post, “What I learned (and taught) at Camp…”. Great stuff as usual. Finally, if you don’t already, I would highly encourage following Chris on Twitter. He’s definitely worth the follow…

Check out the Mobile Recruiting slideshow below. Alternatively, you can catch it on Prezi, or, view it on Slideshare. For the best viewing experience below, click on the expand screen icon near the bottom right corner of the presentation. Enjoy!

Also, for a quick round-up on what others have said on Twitter, check out #SRS09 + Mobile and #SocialRecruiting + Mobile.

First ever Social Recruiting Summit to be held on June 15th at Google’s Headquarters

As Social Media continues to influence and impact our lives, it is important for us to understand how to separate the hype from reality. This year, ERE is launching the “first-of-its-kind” Social Recruiting Summit which will be hosted by Susan Burns. The event will focus on exploring REAL “social recruiting” tactics and strategies that are already in the field and working, not pie-in-the-sky ideas.

Who are the Presenters?

The upcoming summit is packed with many key speakers to include Fistful of Talent’s Kris Dunn, JobMachine’s Shally Steckerl, and PunkRockHR’s Laurie Ruettimann (just to name a few).

In addition, I am also very happy to announce that I will be co-presenting with Chris Hoyt, A.K.A. RecruiterGuy, on a topic I have frequently covered on this site: Mobile Marketing and Recruiting. Unlike other demos in the past, this upcoming session will be highly interactive. Participants will be taken through a live mobile “opt-in” campaign to experience first-hand how SMS is used to help build and engage a target audience. Whether you plan to attend this event live, or watch remotely, make sure to have your mobile device handy!

I’m Pressing the Rewind Button. Care to Follow?

November 23, 2008 by Michael Marlatt · 2 Comments

Ok, so it seems that the “Tag-you’re it” bug is flying around the web these days. Or, at least it appears that way within the recruiting and HR circle.  Anyhow, I have been bitten by the bug twice now.  I was tagged once by good friend and fellow Think Tank Member Amybeth Hale, as well as by Susan Burns from TalentSynchronicity.

So, what does this all mean? Well, it means that today is the day I press rewind and share a sneak peak into what makes me tick (i.e., why I do what I do) by providing “7 things you didn’t know about me.”  Care to follow along?

Here are the rules:

  • Link your original tagger(s), and list these rules on your blog.
  • Share seven facts about yourself in the post - some random, some weird.
  • Tag seven people at the end of your post by leaving their names and the links to their blogs.
  • Let them know they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs and/or twitter.
